I just thought I would spend a bit of time talking about my perspective on watercolor. I love atmosphere, evocation and the ability to journey
into a painting. A scene painter I am not. I try to avoid anything predictable. Painting, for me, is experiential. It rarely is about description and documentation. So much watercolor painting these days focuses on a kind of stiff realism with which I cannot resonate. I find, upon viewing works of a more traditional vintage, that, although I applaud the skill and competency, I keep looking for more happening- in the color, the surface, the paint application and, most of all, the visual "idea".
Painters often come to my watercolor workshops and classes to " loosen up".! It's so much more exciting to layer and glaze with an open , adventurous mind.
